Why choose a car sourced from Japan?
Japan’s roadworthiness test, the shaken, is strict and costly, so many owners keep their cars well maintained. Good public transport in Japanese cities also means many cars cover fewer miles than a typical UK car of the same age.
Are Japanese imports less prone to rust?
Most of Japan sees far less road salt than UK roads in winter, and salt is a major cause of underbody corrosion. Every car is different, so ask us to show you the underside of any car you are interested in.
How do I know the mileage is genuine?
Cars bought at Japanese auctions come with an auction sheet that records the mileage and the inspector’s condition notes. Ask us for the documents for the car you like and we will talk you through them.
Is a Japanese import right-hand drive?
Yes. Japan drives on the left, like the UK, so Japanese cars are right-hand drive and feel just like any other car on UK roads.
Is the car registered in the UK?
A car must be registered with the DVLA before it can be used on UK roads. Ask us for the V5C (logbook) and MOT details for the car you are interested in.
Will the sat nav and radio be in Japanese?
Some cars built for the Japanese market have a Japanese-language screen and a radio tuned to Japanese FM frequencies. Ask us whether the car you like has had its infotainment updated or converted.
Can I get finance on an imported car?
Yes. You can apply for finance on any car in our stock in the same way. Finance is subject to status and lender criteria.
Is it harder to insure or service?
Most popular models are covered by mainstream insurers. Tell your insurer the car is a Japanese import when you get a quote. Most models share parts with UK versions; a few Japan-only models may need parts ordered in.
